Welcome to the Torrens Catchment Greencorps Project

Week 7 - 30thJune–4th July 2008

Old Sheok

Rubbish, Fences and 'Nuckkan'!

On Monday the week started with a mission to clean out the shed at the Mount Pleasant Natural Resource Centre. We started by separating, sorting and piling together all the tools and rubbish that were found. We recycled what could be recycled and threw out, what had to be thrown out. This whole procedure took an estimated half an hour maybe a bit longer. How ever we finished and we were glad that it was finally over as we couldn't take any more cleaning.

Tuesday was our cultural day, with Ivan Copley the last remaining Elder of the Peramangk aboriginal tribe. We learnt about the ancient trade routes through the catchment and saw quite a few numbers of culturally modified trees (CMT). As well ceremonial grounds for secret men's business and the significance of lots of rock out-crops and hills, we felt quite privileged to spend the day with Ivan. We learnt one word in Peramangk "nuckkan" meaning farewell or catch you later.

Western Grey Kangaroo

Wednesday we went to the nursery and sorted the weeds from the plants from Brenton from the Australian Conservation Volunteers.

Thursday we went back to school, and did work on install, maintain and repair fencing. We spent the afternoon visiting various properties, looking at different fencing and construction methods.

Friday was filled with more fencing, and an afternoon BBQ at the park at Mount Pleasant. Another all-round good week.
